Clean & Green: Doing our part for a healthier environment
4/07/08

As a company, Superior believes that sustaining the health and well-being of the environment is vital to the needs of future generations, communities, and businesses. Our “green” initiative – Thinking Beyond Today – started with the replacement of our office wastebaskets with recycling bins; all paper, plastics, cardboard, and batteries are recycled in an effort to reduce landfill waste and minimize the depletion of our planet’s natural resources.

It continues with the creation of our Environmental Committee whose purpose is to spread company-wide “green” awareness via electronic circulars and periodic workshops.

Sustainable Packaging

We’ve also committed to incorporating Sustainable Packaging – the re-use or recycling of existing products and packaging, such as VPCs, artcards, and clamshells.

Currently, Superior is examining alternative packaging materials considered more eco-friendly but perform to the same standards as traditional materials. In the near future, Superior will implement a program designed to assess the environmental impact our packages and products have throughout their lifespan.

Distribution Center Initiatives

In addition to our corporate offices, Superior has implemented environmental initiatives within our distribution centers. Some of these initiatives include:

  • Becoming an active member of the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC);
  • Partnering with Battery Solutions, Inc. to recycle and renew all defective and obsolete batteries;
  • Retro-fitting Superior distribution centers with energy-efficient lighting by Q2 2008;
  • Purchasing and recycling 100% wooden pallets.

Compliance

Within the past two years, Superior and our suppliers (foreign and domestic) have modified the way in which we manufacture many of our electrical products so that they adhere to US and global regulatory mandates, including:

  • Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE)
  • People’s Republic of China MII RoHS/WEEE
  • Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
  • Mercury Legislation (New England)
  • Proposition 65 (California)
